Jobber, QuickBooks and AI: what your software already does, and what is missing

Two colleagues reviewing figures on laptops

If you run a trades or service business, there is a good chance you already pay for software that now includes AI. Jobber and QuickBooks, two tools many Alberta contractors use, have both added AI features in the last year. Before buying anything new, it is worth knowing what you already have.

What Jobber's AI says it can do

According to Jobber's own AI page, its features include:

  • drafting quotes;
  • suggesting automations based on how you work, such as follow-ups;
  • an AI receptionist that answers calls and texts, books jobs and takes messages within limits you set;
  • rewriting a client message into a more polished version;
  • voice commands in the mobile app, and reports built from your Jobber data.

Jobber's page does not say which plans include which features, so check your own plan before counting on them.

What QuickBooks is adding in Canada

In October 2026, Intuit began rolling out new AI features for QuickBooks in Canada, in beta. They include describing a task in plain English and letting QuickBooks carry out the steps, such as creating invoices from documents, sending them and following up on overdue payments, as well as answering questions about your finances and cash flow. Availability depends on your product and subscription, and some features may have limits or extra fees.

So why isn't everyone saving hours already?

Because having a feature and using it well are two different things. In small businesses, we often see the same gaps:

  • Nobody set it up. The features are there, but turned off, or left on default settings that do not match how you quote, schedule or bill.
  • No rules on client information. Your crew may still paste addresses, access codes or prices into a free personal chatbot, because nobody said what is allowed.
  • The work outside the software. Requests arriving by email, voicemail or your website form, job reports, review replies: much of the paperwork happens outside your job software.
  • Nobody measures. Without a before and after, you never know whether it is worth what you pay.

A simple order of operations

  1. List what you already pay for. Check your Jobber, QuickBooks and Microsoft 365 or Google plans for the AI features you have.
  2. Write one page of rules. Which tools are approved, what client information never goes into AI, who approves prices and quotes.
  3. Turn on one feature at a time. Start with quote follow-ups or request summaries, test them on a few jobs, then adjust.
  4. Automate the gaps. Connect what your software does not cover, such as your inbox or your website form.
  5. Measure for a month. Time spent and quotes accepted, before and after.

That is exactly the order we follow in AI-Ready 30: we start from the tools you already use, set the rules, train your team and build what is missing. To see what applies to your business, book a free 30-minute AI check. You can also read how to follow up on every quote.

Features and plans change often. This article is based on the vendors' public information as of October 2026; check the current details with Jobber and Intuit.
